Story behind the treasure: My father was born to strict Baptist parents and one day my grandmother went to a church sale and found what she thought was a suitable book for him. She missed the title page, but a glance at the chapter headings revealed what seemed to be Biblical subjects so she brought it home. My father quickly discovered that the old man of the title kept a stable of race horses, each of which was named after a prophet, but the stories were tales of adventure and skullduggery. My grandmother never knew, and I still treasure the book.
