Story behind the treasure: My nan is the wonderful grand old lady of our family who grew up on a farm near Blackburn. In the outside loo they used old newspapers as toilet paper and one day she noticed an advertisement for nurses in London. So in the 1930s she left to train to be a nurse at Queen Charlotte’s. This is her nursing dictionary and her nursing belt buckle. These are treasured items to my sister and I who have followed in her footsteps by becoming a nurse and a midwife.
