Story behind the treasure: My Aunt Winifred, gave these figures to her sister, my mother, when she returned from wartime service with the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps. My mother kept them on her dressing table and when I was little, in the early 1950’s I used to play with them, while she was changing, before she took me to the park in the afternoon. Many years later, before she died, she gave to me these almost forgotten figures. She had carefully repainted them for me – she said – “you were so happy when you played with these”.
