Story behind the treasure: I never knew my grandfather William Davies. He was killed in the First World War, leaving a young widow Mary Jane and a daughter - my mother Cecilia. They married in June 1914, and he was called up in August: a few weeks of married life was all they'd known. She heard of his death 2 days before her 21st Birthday. When she died I inherited a small tin box, inside were Williams last belongings including this present; small candle holder with matches. I treasure it to honour a man I didn't know but whose blood runs in my veins.
