Story behind the treasure: My great-great-grandmother's sampler hangs on my wall, its colours shaded from the sun of the 21st Century. I like to think of her sewing it in Wigtownshire, Scotland, perhaps by candlelight in the family cottage. It measures about 14 inches by 16, quite an undertaking for a girl whos days were spent working around a farm. At the top it's verse reads 'Modesty & Virtue, Ever be my praise, still growing wisdom, as I grow in days'. It is pretty, traditional in style and very carefully worked. As her namesake I particularly value this piece of our family history.
