Story behind the treasure: This curio belonged to my Grandfather. He was born in 1877 and ran away to sea as a boy of 15, lying about his age to join the Merchant Navy. He bought this bottle in Colombo, Ceylon in 1894 on his first voyage. It survived many travels around the world until he left the sea in 1901. It was a great source of fascination to his grand children as we could never understand how the carved flowers got into the bottle. It is now very fragile but still intact, and much treasured by the next generation too.
