Enoch's ring

Story behind the treasure: An hour or two after my father died my mother said "You'd better have this" and gave me a signet ring. She reminded me of the family tradition, that it was given by the Duke of Wellington to General Enoch, on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo. Could it be true? And how did it get into my family? The search for answers led me into a 15-year quest into family history, into army life, heraldry, poverty in rural Wales and the slums of Victorian Liverpool. And now I'm tantalisingly close to answering the questions.
